Bicycle safety

In general, bicycle safety is an absolute necessity for every biker

Who hasn’t heard hundreds of lectures on bicycle safety? Always wear your bicycle helmets, know the hand signals, don’t ride at night, have reflective material on your bike – you can recite all of the rules. But bicycle safety is more than knowing the rules, it’s respecting and observing them at all times. Bicycle safety is something that every cyclist should know intimately and share with other cyclists in their community, especially those new to the hobby.

You don’t have to ride the most dangerous of dirtbikes to practice bicycle safety. Think of all of the accidents people on standard street bikes get into on a daily basis because they don’t practice good bicycle safety, or because the drivers of cars on the road don’t know their part in bicycle safety. Everyone riding a street bike should know to always wear bicycle helmets and observe the basic rule of bicycle safety to stay inside the white line on the shoulder of the road.

Of course, those with complex machines like dirtbikes have an even greater obligation to bicycle safety. Not only do they need to know the rules of the road and the trail, they need to know the in-depth rules of bicycle safety for their specific bike models. We all have a commitment to bicycle safety that we need to uphold, and the road will be the better for it.
